Council Tax, NNDR, Housing Benefit Overpayments and Former Client Rent Arrears – Irrecoverable Debt.

1.            That the report be declared exempt from publication as the business to be transacted involves the disclosure of information as prescribed by paragraph 1 of Part 1 of Schedule 12a of the Act relating to information relating to the financial or business affairs of any particular person (including the authority).

2.            That the Cabinet Member for Finance and Corporate Services approved the writing off of the irrecoverable debt shown as shown in paragraph 5.1 of the report.

3.            That the amounts shown in paragraph 6.1 of the report as written-off under officer delegated authority be noted.

Reasons for Decision 

The recommendation to write-off the amounts detailed in the report is proposed as all other avenues available to the Council for the recovery of these debts have been exhausted, including, where appropriate, the issue of distress proceedings.
